Michael Medina was born in the United States, the eldest son of immigrant families of Colombia, South America, and Ireland. Proud of his Spanish heritage, he grew up bilingual as well as bi-cultural. His immediate family moved to Puerto Rico in the late 1960s in Mike’s formative years of childhood which enabled him to be completely bilingual in written and spoken Spanish. They moved back to the United States and settled eventually in Tennessee where Mike finished high school, graduating at age 16.
He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, graduating in 1980 with honors and a major in marketing and a minor in international business.
Mike was recruited by a fortune 500 corporation and moved to Jacksonville, Florida. After two years of a successful career in business, he pursued a second bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from a private college in Southern California where he studied concert and theatre staging plus lighting and sound. It was during this time he met his wife to be, Adriana Vergara, from Santaigo, Chile in South America. They were married in 1985 and have two daughters.
